Most people believe that stretch marks are not a disease
and they are right. Stretch marks are just an expression
of some other problem or a condition such as obesity,
pregnancy and puberty. These marks that are also referred
to as ‘striae gravidarum’ (the medical term)
appear in the exterior body parts that go through changes
such as the stomach, breasts, thighs, buttocks and even
arms. In simple terms,
stretch
marks appear on the skin, when the skin surface
is stretched beyond its normal condition. And this can
happen both when the skin is expanding and contracting.
But another school of thought says that stretch marks
appear when the glucocorticoids hormone level in the
blood goes up. The production of the glucocorticoids
hormone increases with obesity, pregnancy and the other
reasons.
In the beginning stretch marks appear red in color
but slowly they start to fade and end up as a permanent
silvery mark. Stretch marks remain for a life time
unless some topical application or other mark remover
is used to get rid of them.
